Schedule and Performers 2019

THE HANK PINE BAND

The Hank Pine Band is an art rock and theatrical collective with a rotating group of musicians from Vancouver. The music jumps genres from disco to ska to punk to country, but is held in place by the unique, direct, and brutally honest songwriting of Hank Pine.
A former Mr. Nude Universe, Hank Pine is one part evangelist, two parts soothsayer, and all heart. Mr Pine is pleased as punch to be part of the Galiano Music Fest experience.

TOADS ON A WIRE

Toads on a Wire is an eclectic collection of pure bred artists who possess a peculiar combination of flavors. With a unique influence stretching from east to west, each Toad has their own persona and brings something unique to the project. Ranging from the sounds of old ragtime and Appalachian, to gypsy-jazz noise, Toads on a Wire has fused together their own unique styles into a cornucopia of sounds that will be sure to get your legs leaping and boot stompin’ into a full blown dancing bonanza!

GARAGE195

Eclectic jazz blues rock country band. Exiled to the garage from the first day of practice.

  • Dirk Ouellette – Lounge blues jazz vocals on a dangerous metaphysical frequency.
  • Shelley Okepnak – Wicked sticks. As Zen as you can get smacking hard objects together.
  • Rorry Dunbar – grew up feeding on AM radio broadcast in the 70s and 80s. Guitars and vocals. Has the keys to the garage.
  • Christian Nally – when a pirate is invited to join your band, is it polite to ask him to remove his eye patch?
  • Arnie Bell – had a pretty blue bass so we let him join the band but only if he promised to behave.

THE SUBTRADES

A local Galiano rock band, who have been jamming recreationally for 5 years. Founding member Greg Gammon (guitar and vocals) writes all of the band’s tunes. The rest of the Subtrades are Nikki Spooner (accordion, keyboard, vocals), Cliff Miller (bass, vocals) and Frank Moyle (drums, harmonica, vocals, crowd noises and fun). We believe if you’re not making mistakes you’re not trying hard enough. We have an original sound of local original music – CD’s available.

SPACE DETECTIVES

Like a declassified planet on the edge of a star system, this acoustic duo is a fraction of the Vancouver ska band, Brehdren. Featuring the Space Case quadrilogy, Scott E. Moil sings and strums ukulele while Ian Malinski keeps rhythms and melodies in orbit with his guitar. Space Detectives picked up a call in 1998 and were instantly transported 20 years into the future with only their instruments in hand. Finding themselves in a park in East Vancouver in what seemed to be the darkest time line they battled the overwhelming weight of the world with the most uplifting relevant music from their previous continuum…SKA!

MIKE AND ANNIE BROWN

Watch out, because Mike and Annie Brown will change how you thought you felt about Celtic music. This Vancouver pair has returned for their second year at the Galiano Music Festival, to please your ears and toes with a mix of traditional tunes and esoteric melodies. On fiddle, clarinets and pennywhistle, their music is light and uplifting as the breeze from the ocean, or throaty and rough as a raven in a tree.

A fiddler and a horn player walked into an Irish bar …
